Sunflowers in tarot
The sunflower turns its head to follow the sun, and for that reason it became an emblem of devotion and of the soul turning towards God, a favourite of seventeenth-century emblem books. In the Waite-Smith deck sunflowers grow tall over the wall of the Sun card, facing the child, and the Queen of Wands holds one in her left hand, with more on her throne. In readings they stand for warmth, loyalty, confidence and growth towards the light. They connect the Queen of Wands with the solar energy of the fire suit.

In her left hand she holds a sunflower on a long stem with broad leaves, and more sunflowers decorate the throne behind her. Sunflowers turn to follow the light: joy, vitality and an open, sunny nature.
