Cliff edge in tarot
A cliff edge is a place of risk and of view: one more step and everything changes. The Fool walks to the very edge of a precipice with his face turned to the sky. The Tower stands on a jagged crag, and in the Three of Wands a man looks out from a high bluff towards ships on the sea. In readings the cliff means a threshold. It can be reckless innocence, a brave leap or, for those already at the top, the far perspective that comes after a climb. Notice whether the figure is looking down, out or up.
Cards that show cliff edge
-
The Fool
The Fool: The cliff edge
The young man stands on a jutting rock with nothing but air ahead of him. The edge is the threshold of every real beginning, the place where planning stops and experience starts. Waite insisted that for the Fool it 'has no terror'.

Three of Wands
Three of Wands: The rocky ridge
He stands on a grey-green outcrop above the water. The height gives him perspective, and the drop in front is a reminder that the next stage is not on solid ground but out at sea.
