The One-Card Daily Draw spread

A single card drawn at the start of the day is the simplest tarot practice there is, and one of the best ways to learn the deck. One card cannot tell you much about a complicated situation, but it can give the day a theme to notice: a quality to bring, a mood to watch for, or a question to carry. Over weeks, drawing one card a day builds a personal sense of each card that no book can supply, because you come to connect it with things that actually happened and with how you actually felt.

Single-card draws have been part of card reading for as long as there have been cards to draw, so there is no particular history to tell. The modern habit of a daily card owes more to journaling than to fortune-telling.

A theme for the day: a quality to bring, something to watch for, or a question to carry with you.

How to lay and read it

Shuffle, draw one card and look at the image for a moment before reading anything about it. Notice what you see first, and what you feel. Then read the meaning, and choose one idea to keep in mind through the day. In the evening, look at the card again and ask where it showed up, if it did. If a card keeps appearing over several days, treat that as a theme worth thinking about rather than as a warning.
